We just need to copy their content over to https://github.com/OBF/wp-content/ which will be read-only post-migration, and adjust URLs accordingly to /wp-content/...

(And then delete the files here and remove them from the git history if large)

Nice. Do we still need /static/w/images or are they again already on https://github.com/OBF/wp-content/ (and we just need to tweak a few URLs)?

Once we're happy I do still want to run the numbers for a git history rewrite as I'm expecting a massive drop in repository size. That will benefit anyone taking a clone in future (but with the minor invoncience for us few with an existing clone).

@Nomi when a main branch history is rewritten, assuming you have no pending changes on branches of your own, by far the simplest way to deal with it is delete your local copy and take a fresh clone. So if we go ahead, we'll coordinate with you to make sure the timing isn't an issue.

@peterjc you seem to have tagged the wrong person. I have no idea what this project is about, but wow, rewriting the main branch history seems too nuclear of an option.

Yes, rewriting the history is drastic but we have hundreds of MB of images bloating the current history which we don't need (and this is a young repository with only 3 contributors thus far).

@peterjc Those aren't yet on the wp-static, but also don't seem to take up a lot of space (it's ~4 mb, mostly due to a treasurer report that i'm not sure is linked from anywhere).

If you want to try copying them into the wp-content folder and then edit the markdown files please do! But I think worst case it's okay to keep it as is!

Actually, these are relics from the MediaWiki site, e.g. /static/w/images/a/ac/HP-logo-no-tagline.png is already at https://github.com/OBF/wiki/blob/main/HP-logo-no-tagline.png and https://obf.github.io/wiki/HP-logo-no-tagline.png - so they are almost certainly not being used in the former WordPress content.

User account creation via the old login system will be disabled and OpenID will be the default path for new accounts so users to make wiki changes.  This currently appears to have cut the incidence of spam significantly.  We will be adding information to the login pages to redirect new users to the new login page.
